Why did you cry at the beach?, 2024





The celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Festival shed a fasci- nating light on the ambivalence between the commemoration of the horrors of war and the festive nature of the event. Amidst the historical sites and mo- numents commemorating the victims and heroes of the Second World War, people from all over the world gather to celebrate and commemorate together. These seemingly contradictory elements - war and festivity - merge in a uni- que way and raise questions about the nature of commemoration, the mea- ning of memory and the human ability to learn from the past.
