In the juvenile prison of Rockenberg, sport has become more than just physical activity. It is a way for young inmates to momentarily escape the confines of their everyday routine.

Each year, prisoners from different regions gather for a relay race in early summer, training together and competing on the track. For many participants, running and other sports offer a rare sense of freedom, camaraderie, and focus, helping them cope with life behind bars and the challenges of incarceration. Through movement and teamwork, these youths find moments of relief from their thoughts and circumstances, making sport an essential emotional outlet in an otherwise restricted environment.
